Guidance for Entering into Fuel Plans and Contracts

Summer is almost over. This means, for many people, it is time to start thinking about winter heating. For those who heat with fuel, the Department of Consumer Protection’s September Consumer Watch newsletter provides guidance on choosing a heating fuel dealer. The newsletter emphasizes the importance of research. It encourages comparing prices, confirming a prospective dealer’s state licensure, and asking for references. The newsletter describes the different types of heating fuel plans and contracts available to consumers and provides a list of the terms a fuel contract must contain. It also gives tips for reducing fuel use.
