Public Act 08-98 required Connecticut to prepare recommendations and plans to enable state and local governments to adapt to climate change impacts. In 2013, Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection finalized
the Climate Preparedness Plan, which listed many adaptation strategies across several sectors, including land use, transportation, and public health. How many of these strategies have been implemented, and to what extent are other states planning for climate change effects?
According to the
Georgetown Climate Center, of 76 goals listed in the plan, Connecticut has completed two and made progress on 47. The center, based at Georgetown Law, tracks the implementation and progress of state climate adaptation planning.
According to the center, Connecticut is one of 14 states with a finalized adaptation plan, and several more states have begun other state planning efforts.
