The
Veterans Retraining Assistance Program, offered by the federal Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA), is aimed at helping veterans who:
- are between 35 and 59;
- are unemployed when they apply;
- received a discharge other than dishonorable;
- are not eligible for any other VA education benefit program (e.g., the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Assistance);
- are not receiving any VA compensation due to being unemployable; and
- are not currently enrolled in a federal or state job training program.
Veterans will receive 12 months of training assistance through a VA-approved educational program designed to train the veteran for a
high demand-occupation. Eligible veterans can attend the educational program at a community college or technical school and, upon completion, receive an associate degree, non-college degree, or a certificate.
Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2013.
