According
to a recent Fox61 report,
veterans are among the groups coping with the over-prescription of addictive
opioids, and Senator Blumenthal plans to introduce legislation limiting the
amount of pain medication doctors can prescribe at Department of Veterans
Affairs (VA) health facilities. The legislation,
which is similar to a recently enacted Connecticut law, also requires
facilities to do a better job monitoring and tracking of prescriptions and educating
doctors about managing pain.
The VA promised
to act on opioid addiction last year, but Senator Blumenthal feels it is not moving
fast enough.
