Maybe not, according to a
recently released report by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation entitled
Ready or Not? Protecting the Public’s from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism. The 10th annual report evaluates states’ preparedness for different emergencies based on 10 benchmarks. Only five states met eight of the 10 benchmarks: Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Connecticut met six of the benchmarks. According to the report, state and federal budget cuts over the last several years have resulted in low preparedness scores.
