According to a
recent study in the peer-reviewed journal,
Neurology, the number of U.S. residents over age 65 with Alzheimer’s disease could triple by 2050. Using 2010 U.S. Census data, the authors estimated that there were 4.7 million seniors with Alzheimer’s disease in 2010. It projects that number to increase to 13.8 million in 2050. These projections emphasize the need to find either prevention or treatment for the disease in order to decrease the future burden on individuals, families, and the health care system.
