Engineered Salmon Could be Coming to Your Dinner Plate

The New York Times reports that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has concluded that a genetically engineered, fast growing salmon is safe to eat and would have no significant impact on the environment.  The FDA's environmental assessment will be open to public comment for 60 days, but it appears likely that the agency will allow the salmon to enter the U.S. food supply.  AquaBounty Technologies, the company that developed the salmon, says the engineered fish grows to market weight in 18 months, rather than three years.
