National Foreclosure Filing Rate Decreasing

The number of foreclosure filings in April (188,780 U.S. properties) was the lowest since July 2007. According to Realtytrac, an online foreclosure property marketplace, foreclosure filings dropped 5% from the previous month and 14% from April 2011. This includes default notices, scheduled auctions, and bank repossessions.

Although the foreclosure rate dropped nationally, it increased in 11 of the 20 largest U.S. metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Miami, and Philadelphia.
