The Vermont Blue Ribbon Tax Structure Commission has issued its final report on reforming the state’s tax structure.
Among its recommendations, the 3-member commission proposed that the state (1) lower and flatten its personal income tax rates and brackets, (2) lower its sales tax rate and broaden the base, and (3) evaluate the cost and effectiveness of the state’s tax expenditures.
The Vermont legislature created the commission in 2009 to analyze the state’s revenue system and recommend ways to improve and modernize it.
