Government in 2037

What will it look like? Governing magazine asked five public sector leaders how government will be different 25 years from now.  Among their predications:

  1. public private partnerships will increase as we’re forced to expand revenue sources for things like transportation projects;
  1. small city and town governments will disappear as the cost of providing services increases and demand remains the same, contributing to the emergence of more regional governments;
  1. senior year of high school will be eliminated to unburden the education system, leaving grades K-11 in place; and
  1. the composition of state legislatures will shift to include more and more tech-savvy people as leaders will need to understand and appreciate how technology can be used to make services easier, faster, better, and more cost-effective.
