On December 28, 2011, Save the Sound, a program of Connecticut Fund for the Environment, released its
2011 State of the Sound report. According to the
news release, “The report assesses states' initiatives to implement the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan for Long Island Sound based on eight indicators — coastal habitat, beach litter, migratory habitat, low oxygen (hypoxia), raw sewage, stormwater runoff, toxic chemicals, and stewardship. Overall, the report gave an average grade of a C+ for Connecticut and New York efforts to protect and preserve Long Island Sound.”
