College counseling centers reported an increase in clients with severe psychological problems last year, but anxiety was students’ top complaint, according to an annual report by the
Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors. The report, as discussed in an April 3, 2011 article in The Chronicle of Higher Education, is based on a fall 2010 survey of 424 counseling centers. Anxiety surpassed depression as the leading student complaint for the first time since the association’s initial survey in 2006.
