Nursing Homes Contribute to the Economy Especially in Connecticut

So says a new report by the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, a coalition of 15 national long-term care provider organizations dedicated to improving nursing home care and ensuring adequate government funding for it.

The study’s authors analyzed the economic activity that nursing homes generate in all 50 states. They found that in the New England region alone, nursing homes generated $16.27 billion in economic activity, representing nearly 132,000 jobs. Connecticut ranked second behind Massachusetts in the total number of nursing home-generated jobs (i.e., nursing home jobs and jobs in other sectors supported by the nursing home industry) and economic activity with 54,727 jobs and $5.2 billion in activity, respectively, in 2009.
